| Step 1: | Meet with your home seller or Clinton McAlister of C&D Septic (336-376-8185) on your land to determine the best location for your new home site and "stake off" where you would like the corners of your new home to be if you don't want to do the work yourself. |
| Step 2: | Obtain your well and septic system permits from the local health department. |
| Note: If you have contracted with Jordan Properties to install your well and septic, Jordan Properties will pay for and obtain all health permits and will work with the health inspectors and contractors during approval of your home site location and installation of your well and septic system. Prices for permits vary depending on the county. Jordan Properties charges $4,500 for a well and pump and $3,500 for a conventional septic system. (See Jordan Properties Well & Septic Services.) | |
| Step 3: | Meet on site with your grading contractor and your septic system contractor to review where you want your new home and the location of your well and septic as determined by the health department. Schedule the clearing/grading and lineup the septic system and well contractors upon completion of the site preparation. |
| Step 4: | Take a copy of your well and septic system permit to the local building inspections department and obtain your building permit. KEEP YOUR BUILDING PERMIT NUMBER HANDY WHEN LINING UP YOUR HOUSE MOVERS, PLUMBERS, ELECTRICIANS AND BUILDING CONTRACTORS. (Note: Your house mover, plumber and electrician must obtain their own permits and call for their own inspections.) Your street address will be issued by the Building Inspections Department. |
| Step 5: | FOR MANUFACTURED HOME BUYERS Lineup your manufactured home mover and schedule a moving/set-up date or construction schedule. NOTE: Alamance County requires a site inspection prior to set-up. Make sure your mover/dealer checks with the inspections department before set-up. |
| Step 6: | Schedule your plumber, well pump installer, electrician and carpenter to complete the work necessary to pass building inspections for the day after the mover finished. Your well contractor will install the pump and run the water line and pump wire to your house for your plumber and electrician to connect. Your plumber will run your sewer line to your septic tank. The carpenter will build your steps and porches. The mobile home mover is responsible for the blocking and tie-down of the unit. The electrician is responsible for setting the meter base and connecting everything to the electric panel. |
| Step 7: | Contact all your utility companies to run their services to your new home site. (They normally need a two weeks notice and will run lines underground at no charge for a certain distance.) |
| Step 8: | Contact your local post office to let them know you have moved and to obtain the procedures for putting up your mailbox and changing your address. |
| Step 9: | Line up your landscaper to finish your yard after all other contractors are finished. |
| Step10: | ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME!! |
